Intriguing Facts About Wonder Woman, Mrs. Gal Gadot
Gal Gadot has earned a lot of attention lately thanks to her performance as Wonder Woman. With a past as both Gucci model and combat instructor in the Israeli army, she is now Hollywood’s newest “IT” girl. Find out more about the actress behind Wonder Woman and see why everyone in Hollywood is talking about her.
Gal was trained in Krav Maga, the infamous Israeli martial art. Something that came in handy when she had to train for her role as an Amazon warrior.
Gym Jones trainers Mark Twight and Thomas Bradley wanted her to look like a believable superhero, so they created extreme workouts to get her a chiselled physique.
Director Zack Snyder didn’t tell her the audition was for the role of Wonder Woman, so she had no idea what it was for. She spent the time before her audition listening to Beyonce to pump herself up.
At nearly 5’10’’ tall and lean, Gal was the perfect choice to play an Amazonian warrior. She just had to study fighting forms such as Kickboxing and Karate to add some muscle.
WONDER WOMAN’S FIRST TIME
Gal made her first appearance as Wonder Woman in 2016 “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”. She made a huge splash in this movie and the excitement for her own Wonder woman film grew.
She was first hired by Zack Snyder for the movie Batman v Superman. As soon as he saw her he knew he had found his Wonder Woman.
PREMIERE NUMBER 1
Wonder Woman opened up with a strong first weekend, earning over $100 million. A great start for all future female-lead movies.

FIRST ACTING ROLE
She got her first role in the Israeli TV-series Bubot, where she played Miriam. Apparently this was more than enough for Justin Lin to hire her to play the role of Gisele in Fast and Furious.
Gal underwent a serious transformation from a lean model to a believable Amazonian warrior. Her trainer had her work with weights combined with combat practice to bulk her up. She also consumed near 7,000 calories a day when she was trying to bulk up.
Being an Israeli citizen, Gal had to serve two years in the Israeli Military Defense Force. During this time she auditioned, and got the part of Gisele Harabo in the newer Fast and Furious movies.
In 2015 Gal starred in the new Gucci campaign for the bamboo perfume, from which she earned more than 2.4 million dollars. And it was her first campaign !
Gal was born in Israel on April 30, 1985 to a mother who was a teacher and a father who was an engineer. That’s her on the right.
FROM MODEL TO ACTION STAR
Gal gained 17 lb of muscle in six months by training for six hours a day. Making the transition from model to action star wasn’t easy, but the final product is quite amazing.
When she went out for Miss Universe, she had to be convinced by her mother to go. She hated it so much that she refused to go to any other beauty pageants from that moment on.
In 2012, she was inserted in the Top 5 Jewish Women list by Shalom Life Magazine because of her skills, talent, beauty and intelligence.
After two years in the Israeli Military, she studied Law and International relations. She auditioned for the role of a Bond Girl for the movie Quantum of Solace but didn’t get it. She later commented that she was too smart for the role anyway.
PREGNANT DURING FILMING OF WONDER WOMAN
You really wouldn’t tell, mainly because she was only a few months during the original filming, but during reshoots she was five months pregnant and showing. They modified the costume and placed a green cloth over the baby bump to screen it out.
She became a celebrity thanks to her earlier modelling career, which also gave her the chance to travel a lot. She’s 32 and her acting career has just started.
After she was rejected for the role of Bond girl, she went to an acting coach and started her acting career in an Israeli TV series. The casting director of Quantum of Solace worked on Fast and Furious as well and decided to hire her for the role of Gisele.
STARRED IN “CRIMINAL”
Gal played Ryan Reynolds’s wife in the action movie Criminal. She enjoyed working with Ryan, so hopefully we’ll see them together again on the screen.
Actor Chris Pine, who plays her love interest in the film, can’t stop talking about how good she is. They are really enjoying doing press conferences together for the film.
ALMOST A BAD GUY IN MAN OF STEEL
Initially she was bound to play the role of villain Faora-Ul in Man of Steel, but had to give up because of her pregnancy. Lucky for all of us, because if she did star, she couldn’t have played the role of Wonder Woman.
Gal wanted a woman to direct Wonder Woman. In her opinion Patty Jenkins was perfect and managed to create a film every woman can relate to.
Her portrayal of Wonder woman is the first time a female has lead a comic book movie in over 10 years. Arguably she was the only good part of Batman v Superman.
By the end of Wonder Woman Gal was four months pregnant. During reshoots, she was five and had to have her baby bump screened out.
ALMOST IN GUARDIANS OF GALAXY
She almost got the part of Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but was beaten by Zoe Saldana. But when she auditioned for Wonder Woman she beat Elodie Yung and Jaimie Alexander.
WAS RYAN REYNOLD’S SCREEN WIFE
Gal played Ryan Reynolds character’s wife in the action movie Criminal. She enjoyed so much working with him that it’s likely we’ll see them together on the screen again.
MISS ISRAEL 2004
She won Miss Israel beauty pageant in 2004, when she was just 18 years old. This sparked her modelling career which would eventually push her into acting. She never liked modelling but saw it as a way to pay for her studies.
Her Wonder Workout included intense weight lifting sessions followed by high intensity circuit training mixing cardio and weights. While she trained for up to six hours a day, her trainers say you could have the same body with only an hour a day. Ready to start?
GOOD FRIENDS WITH THE ROCK
She became great friends with Dwayne The Rock Johnson during her time filming The Fast and The Furious movies. He also gave her good advice on how to get from a slender fashion model to a strong Amazon warrior.
Gadot had always been lean and nimble, so she had to train a lot to transform into a believable Amazonian warrior, gaining as much as 17 lbs of muscle in the process.
Gal is one of the few female leads in Hollywood who do their own stunts. She began doing motorcycle stunts for Fast and Furious, as she already rode her own bike. Sounds like a real Wonder Woman.
DIRECTOR PATTY JENKINS
It was Gal Gadot who suggested Patty Jenkins as a female director for the movie, as she believed a woman would create a more realistic female character.
ALMOST QUIT ACTING
Thankfully she didn’t quit, but early on in her career she had issues dealing with the constant rejection involved in acting and wanted to return to school. Lucky for us, she learned to deal with rejection by not getting rejected at all.
Gadot was born in Rosh Ha’ayin in Israel, the granddaughter of Holocaust survivors. Her name means “wave” and her surname “riverbank”.
ONLY THREE WOMEN
She’s only the third actress to play Wonder Woman, after Cathy Lee Crosby in the 1974 TV film and Lynda Carted in the TV series of the 70s.
She was very close to co-star Paul Walker before his death in 2013. She wrote on Twitter, “Lost a dear friend today. So sudden and tragic. . .Hard to believe. . .Paul was a great man with a big heart and passion for life. I’m so sad he’s no longer with us. Can’t believe I’m actually writing this. . .I’m sending my condolences to his family and his precious daughter Meadow. . .Rest in peace brother. We will miss you here. . .”
SUCCESSFUL MODELING CAREER
Before she considered acting, she travelled around the world thanks to her modelling career. She’s still considered the second most successful Israeli model, after Bar Refaeli.
OWNED A LUXURY HOTEL
In 2015, Gal and her husband sold the luxury hotel they co-owned, The Versano, reportedly for $26 million. Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich bought the Tel Aviv hotel to turn it into his own home.
FAST & FURIOUS
Director Justin Lin saw a video of Gal training and decided to hire her immediately for the Fast and Furious movie. Not only that, he was so impressed that he rewrote her backstory that he included military experience and made her an ex Mossad agent. Being a motorcycle rider already, Gal did all her stunts on her own.
After the failed Bond girl audition, she started going to an acting coach and got her first role in an Israeli TV series. The same casting director for Quantum of Solace worked on Fast & Furious and recommended her for the role of Gisele.
That same year, she played Mark Wahlberg’s girlfriend in the comedy ‘Date Night.” These small roles were starting to gain her fame in Hollywood.
She starred in the action film Triple 9 with Casey Affleck, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Woody Harrelson. As she kept getting roles for films, she was about to become really famous.
Gal’s trainer put her on a strict diet so she could gain the muscles need for the role. She would eat a lot of vegetables and lean meat, and snack on avocado toasts, which are full of proteins.
DOES HER OWN STUNTS
On the set of Fast & Furious 6, Gal was the only star who did all their own stunts. She already owned a Ducati motorcycle so she didn’t lack experience.
In 2009 she starred in an episode of Entourage as one of Vince’s love interests.
She wants Wonder Woman to be a role model for young girls everywhere. Her character is strong and doesn’t need a man. She hopes that this will mark the beginning of strong women roles in movies.
THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE
She was cast as a female lead in Ashton Kutcher’s The Beautiful Life, a TV series about models living in New York City.
To train for the role of a lifetime, she got herself into the best possible shape. She took lessons in swordsmanship, kung fu, kickboxing, capoeira, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and spent countless hours lifting weights at the gym.

Gal considers herself to be 1/4 Polish, 1/4 Czech, 1/4 Austrian and 1/4 German. Those are the four countries her grandparents left when they moved to Israel.

Gal is big on sports and likes to keep fit. Her favourite sports are volleyball, tennis and basketball which she excelled at in school, thanks to her being 5’10’’ tall.
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONES
Gal had a pretty major role in the action comedy Keeping up with the Jones, which starred comedian Zach Galifianakis and Jon Hamm as the male lead role. This movie showed that Gal has a funny side too.
Gal and her husband Yaron Versano married in 2008 and they have two daughters. Mary was born in March 2017 and Alma was born in 2011.
They first met at a party in the desert, and got married two years later with a very traditional Jewish wedding in 2008.
Gadot greatly improved her combat training for Wonder Woman. She studied boxing and martial arts, and dusted off her knowledge of Krav Maga, the Israeli army own martial art.
The first Wonder Woman costume was so tight that Gal had to hold her breath multiple times whilst filming.
