10 celebs “caught” with cheap cars
When thinking of cinema stars, politicians, bankers or famous people in general, we tend to match their success with a full wallet and a series of luxury items “ordinary” people cannot even afford to think about.
In most of the cases we are right. Millionaires are seen as spenders, hardcore squanders of what they own, and lucky enough to be able to make every wish come true: huge houses, holidays in luxury resort on paradise islands, designer shoes and clothes, very expensive cars.
The latter are the symbol of VIPsʼ privileged status and we are used to seeing pics of actors and singers on board of luxury cars such as Ferrari, Bentley, Lamborghini and Corvette.
Nonetheless, some celebs are not eager to own million dollars cars, but oddly prefer humbler cars affordable for anyone.
10) Ingvar Kamprad – Volvo 240
This list could not start better: Ingvar Kamprad, founder of IKEA, the most important Swedish company, worth 30 billions (yap billions) chose a Volvo. And not a luxury one, but a simple Volvo 240, which he is likely to have paid between 1.500 and 2.500 dollars, a paltry sum for his bank account. Yes, because Kamprad could afford at least 15.000 Bugatti Veyrons (each costing 2 million dollars). Once in a while you could even meet Kamprad on a bus. 9) Ron Artest – Hyundai Genesis
If doing better than Ingvar Kamprad sounds impossible for any celebs, take Ron Artest (legally known as Metta World Peace, by his will). Basketball player of Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks, Artest is worth 20 million dollars but he drives a really humble Hyundai Genesis (he has not paid yet). The 35.000 dollars sedan he was seen on was a gift from comedian George Lopez.
8) Steve Ballmer – Ford Fusion Hybrid
Steve Ballmer is former Microsoft CEO. Ηe currently owns LA Clippers basketball team. Realizing that a businessman who has run a giant IT company and is currently the owner of an NBA team chose a very humble Ford Fusion Hybrid as mean of transportation is shocking. Though Ballmer almost totally changed his carʼs interiors using advanced accessories and a sophisticated devices, his carʼs price is still lower than 40.000 $.
7) Leonardo DiCaprio – Toyota Prius Hybrid
Since when he was chosen by James Cameron as Titanicʼs protagonist, in ’97, Leonardo DiCaprio has been one of Hollywoodʼs centrepieces. Ηe still is one of the greatest living actors and is really loved. If you think he starred in a dozen films, you can figure out he earned enough to buy a car suitable for his fame. Nope, Di Caprio is sensitive to environment and chose a Toyota Prius Hybrid costing only 29.900 $.
6) Justin Timberlake – Volkswagen Jetta
Actor and singer Justin Timberlake starred in about twenty movies, published many records and married one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. Still, he spent only 16.000 $ for his 4th generation Volkswagen Jetta. Jetta is an extremely practical, manageable, good looking and at the same time… anonymous car! It is probably for this reason that he chose it, not willing to be seen in the crowd.
5) Clint Eastwood – GMC Typhoon
Clint Eastwood, a legendary cinema star, director and producer became famous for starring in western movies in ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Though he collected many successes, Clint Eastwood did not flatter and still drives a 22 years old GMC Typhoon. The SUV is personalized anyways: it has a turbo 4.3 L V6 motor costed only 29.500$.
4) Daniel Radcliffe – Fiat Punto
The actor, who became very famous after starring Ηarry Potter, the little magician from Hogwarts, decided to give himself a “responsible” present for his 18th birthday,: instead of a Porsche or an Aston Martin as his peers, he went for a more economic, less polluting Fiat Punto. Radcliffe spent 17.800 $ for a bold, sportive, young type.
3) Mel Gibson – Toyota Cressida
Braveheart is the movie that launched him in the movie star world and his career did not stop afterwards. Ηe could drive any kind of car, but we know Mel Gibson is romantic and most of all melancholic. Ηe drives one of the most classic, old American cars: Toyota Cressida, no longer produced since 1992.
2) Jennifer Lawrence – Volkswagen Eos
It seems Jennifer Lawrence does not love showy luxury cars. The Oscar awarded actress earned more than 40 million dollars in a few years time, but spent only 35.000 $ for her white Volkswagen Eos. Just like its owner, the car is nice, somewhat elegant and sober car.
1) Mark Zuckerberg – Acura TSX
Following such a sudden, upsetting success, anyone would have become eager to own a fantastic car. Anyone except Facebook founder: young Mark Zuckerberg only spended 30.000 $ for an Acura TSX. Trifle for a new millionaire.
